How to Use the Acpuncture Points BL/UB 28 (Pangguangshu) and BL/UB 29 (Zhonglushu)

BL/UB 28 (Pangguangshu)

Meaning:
Pangguang, the bladder; shu, acupuncture point. This point is at the place where the Qi of Bladder is infused into the back.

Location:
The point is at 1.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous process of the second sacral vertebra.

Action:
Regulates the function of the bladder.

Uses:
Diseases of the urinary bladder, including obstruction of urination, retention of urine or enuresis, frequent urination, incontinence of urine; constipation, diarrhea; lower back pain.

Acupuncture Manipulation Method:
Puncture perpendicularly or obliquely for 0.8-1.2 cun.

Notes:
This point is the Back-Shu Point of the urinary bladder.

BL/UB 29 (Zhonglushu)

Meaning:
Zhonglu, central spine; shu, acupuncture point.

Location:
The point is at 1.5 cun lateral to the Du Meridian, at the same level of the third posterior sacral formane.

Action:
Benefits the lumbar spine.

Uses:
Diarrhea, hernia, stiffness and pain of the lower back.

Acupuncture Manipulation Method:
Puncture perpendicularly for 1-1.5 cun.

How to Use the Acupuncture Points BL/UB 26 (Guanyuanshu) and BL/UB 27 (Xiaochangshu)

BL/UB 26 (Guanyuanshu)

Meaning:
Guanyuan, gates of origin; shu, acupuncture points.

Location:
The point is at 1.5 cun lateral to the Du Meridian, at the same level of the lower border of the spinous process of the fifth lumbar vertebra.

Action:
Benefits the lower back.

Uses:
Abdominal distension, diarrhea, enuresis, sciatica, frequent urination, low back pain.

Acupuncture Manipulation Method:
Puncture perpendicularly for 0.8-1.2 cun.

BL/UB 27 (Xiaochangshu)

Meaning:
Xiaochang, the small intestine; shu, acupuncture point. This point is at the place where the Qi of Small Intestine is infused into the back.

Location:
The point is at 1.5 cun lateral to the Du Meridian, at the same level of the lower border of the spinous process of the first sacral vertebra.

Action:
Improves the function of the small intestine.

Uses:
Diseases of the small intestine, including abdominal pain, abdominal distension, diarrhea, dysentery; enuresis, hematuria, frequent urination and pain of urination; seminal emission; morbid leucorrhea; hemorrhoids; lower back pain, sciatica, sacral or iliac arthritis.

Acupuncture Manipulation Method:
Puncture perpendicularly for 0.8-1.2 cun.

Notes:
This is the Back-Shu Point of the small intestine.

How to Use the Acupuncture Points BL/UB 24 (Qihaishu) and BL/UB 25 (Dachangshu)

BL/UB 24 (Qihaishu)

Meaning:
Qihai, sea of qi; shu, acupuncture point.

Location:
The point is 1.5 cun lateral to the Du Meridian, at the same level of the lower border of the spinous process of the third lumbar vertebra.

Action:
Regulates the circulation of Qi and blood.

Uses:
Abdominal distension, borborygmus, low back pain, hemorrhoids, irregular menstruation, dysmenorrheal, menstruation pain.

Acupuncture Manipulation Method:
Puncture perpendicularly for 0.5-1 cun.

BL/UB 25 (Dachangshu)

Meaning:
Dachang, the large intestine; shu, acupuncture point. This point is at the place where the Qi of the large intestine is infused into the back.

Location:
The point is at 1.5 cun lateral to another point Du 3 (Yaoyangguan), at the same level of the lower border of the spinous process of the fourth lumbar vertebra.

Action:
Improves the function of the Large Intestine.

Uses:
Disorders of the large intestine, including diarrhea, dysentery, constipation, borborygmus, abdominal distension; lower back pain.

Acupuncture Manipulation Method:
Puncture perpendicularly for 0.8-1.2 cun.

Notes:
This is the Back-Shu Point of the large intestine.
