How to Use Peanuts to Heal Dry Cough and Stop Bleeding

Posted in Foods & Diets, Traditional Chinese Medicine at 2:54 pm by Dr. Pharm Tao

In Chinese language, peanuts have some different names. They are also called “earth beans (‘Di Dou’ in Chinese),” “earth nuts (‘Di Guo’ in Chinese),” and “longevity nuts (‘Chang Sheng Guo’ in Chinese).”

Peanuts can be used to moisturize the lung, harmonize the stomach, and stop bleeding. They are useful for healing dry cough, regurgitation, beriberi, and lack of breast milk (hypogalactia). They are very helpful for the diet therapy of bleeding diseases of the internal organs, as well as hemophilia.

According to the theories of Chinese medicine, peanuts are sweet in the taste and neutral in the property. They can work on the meridians or channels of the Spleen and Lung.

Peanuts can be eaten raw, stir-fried, or cooked to make soups or porridges. Peanut butter, peanut cookies, and peanut cakes are also popular. However, they are not recommended for those with diarrhea or stagnancy of dampness and cold.

Peanuts are the seeds of Arachis hypogaea. They belong to the Leguminosae family.
